Dans la dernière semaine du mois de mai lorsque j’ai su que je devais retourner au Canada plus tôt, je n’avais pas du tout envie de retourner directement au Canada après avoir dit au revoir à mon copain pour les 5 prochains mois. J’ai donc décidé le premier juin de m’envoler pour le Costa Rica pour un séjour de 12 jours et d’aller rejoindre un bon ami à moi, Richard! Il avait décidé de passer 6 mois au Costa Rica et avait un endroit pour m’héberger à La Costa de Pajagos entre Libéria et San José. Après presque 48 heures de vol et de marche dans différents aéroports de la chine et des États-Unis, Richard m’a accueillie avec sa belle petite moto qui allait être notre moyen de transport pour les 2 prochaines semaines. Oui j’ai embarqué sur la moto avec mon sac à dos de 18 kilogrammes en plus d’un plus petit sac de 7 kilogrammes. Après 2 jours passés dans les aéroports froids, il faisait bon d’être de retour parmi les palmiers et le soleil chaud. Je me sentais à nouveau comme chez moi.
Nous avons donc roulé environ 1h30 parmi la forêt dans les montagnes où en hauteur il faisait beaucoup plus froid qu’au niveau inférieur où la chaleur était presque écrasante. Nous avons pris une pause pendant laquelle j’ai mangé mon premier repas costaricien. Un bon plat fait de poulet, riz avec des poids, banane plantain et petite salade froide. C’était tout simplement délicieux et typique. Arrivée à la destination tout près de la mer, j’ai découvert une merveilleuse maison en bois qui servait de résidence à Richard depuis déjà 2 mois à ce moment. Juste à côté, il y avait une autre maison où un couple du Nicaragua vivait depuis déjà quelques années. Ils m’ont accueillie très chaleureusement. Ils ont nettoyé ma chambre pendant les deux semaines et nous ont cuisiné divers plats typiques tous les jours, matin, après-midi et soir.
C’était la première fois que je faisais un voyage sans que je n’aie rien à préparer et à organiser. C’était donc pour moi de vraies vacances pour me donner le temps de me reposer et de me préparer mentalement à retourner à la routine que j’allais avoir au Canada c’est-à-dire, Travail, étude, skype. Nos deux semaines ont été très chargées!
Tous les jours, nous nous promenions en moto autour de la Costa de Pajagos où j’ai découvert de magnifiques paysages campagnards avec une vue sur la mer. Il y avait beaucoup de vaches, de moutons et de chevaux dans les champs. Ce qui m’a le plus frappée c’est qu’il y avait des chiens errants partout! Peu importe où nous nous trouvions, il y avait toujours une tonne de chien autour de nous. Il y en avait même un de couché dans l’un des bars où nous sommes sortis! À la maison où je résidais, il y avait environ 4 ou 5 chiens et ils s’amusaient souvent avec les deux singes qui habitaient la forêt environnant la maison. C’était vraiment spécial de me réveiller tous les matins pour aller déjeuner sur une belle table ronde en bois à l’extérieur accompagnée d’un ou deux singes mangeant une mangue tout près de moi.
Lors de mon voyage au Costa Rica, nous avons visité plusieurs villes intéressantes. Nous sommes premièrement allés à Montezuma où nous avons séjourné deux jours dans une auberge de jeunesse avec vue sur la mer. Nous nous sommes acheté une bonne bouteille de rhum que nous avons dégusté près de la mer avec aussi du bon lait de coco fraichement cueilli d’un palmier. Nous avons mangé dans un très bon restaurant bio et nous sommes sorties en boîte pour ensuite voir un spectacle de danse avec du feu en plein milieu de la rue. Le lendemain, nous sommes allés à la fameuse chute d’eau de Montezuma où nous nous sommes baignés et avons regardé des gens de l’endroit se lancer depuis le haut de la chute! C’était assez impressionnant!
Nous avons aussi visité Liberia où nous avons résidé dans un magnifique hôtel pour deux nuits. Nous avons fait une longue route pour nous rendre jusqu’à un volcan actif. Puisqu’il était actif nous ne pouvions pas nous rendre jusqu’au sommet, mais ça nous a permis d’avoir une vue d’ensemble de toutes les montagnes donc une qui projetait des amas de fumée. À défaut de ne pas nous rendre jusqu’à sommet, nous nous sommes dons arrêté dans un spa créé par les sources d’eau chaude en provenance du Volcan. C’était fabuleux! J’ai bien aimé la ville de Libéria. Il y a avait un beau grand parc avec tout plein de personnes dans les rues. Nous avons encore une fois mangé dans un très bon restaurant où les pina colada étaient tout simplement délicieux! Il y avait une belle grande église blanche qui était remplie au complet! Ça faisait très longtemps que je n’avais pas vu une église bondée. Il y avait aussi de jeunes enfants qui faisaient du skate juste en face. Ça faisait un drôle de contraste.
Lors de mon séjour, nous avons été pêchés avec un voisin de Richard sur un petit bateau accompagné de 8 autres personnes de la région en plus de quelques Colombiens. Personnes ne parlaient anglais sauf nous alors les échanges étaient très drôles. Et je dois dire que je suis fière puisque c’est moi qui ai attrapé les deux premiers poissons! EH OUI! De plus, je dois dire que ce qui m’a le plus marquée au Costa Rica est, les insectes. La nuit lorsqu’on ouvrait la lumière, il y en avait tout plein qui rentraient à l’intérieur. Donc, en plus d’être sur le décalage horaire de l’Australie, j’étais complètement théorisée par les insectes. Une nuit, j’avais ma lampe de poche à la main et je l’ai pointé sur le mur juste à côté de ma tête et il y avait un scorpion! UN SCORPION! J’ai le souffle qui a coupé et j’ai accouru directement à Richard pour qu’il puisse le tuer. Devinez si j’ai dormi après ça?
Pour terminer mon séjour, nous nous sommes arrêtés à une plage paradisiaque nommée la Hermosa où nous avons encore une fois dormi dans un magnifique hôtel et où nous avons soupé dans un splendide coucher de soleil. Les gens nous ont super bien accueillis et la température était toujours parfaite, peu importe où nous nous trouvions.
J’ai adoré mon voyage au Costa Rica! Je compte même y retourner pour visiter le côté des Caraïbes. J’ai adoré tous les gens que nous avons rencontrés. Tout le monde était tellement gentil, chaleureux et compréhensif. Ces deux semaines là-bas mon permis de me reposer et de me vider la tête de tout souci. C’était vraiment des vacances de paix. La langue espagnole est tout simplement magnifique et je suis contente de m’être aussi bien débrouillée, ça m’encourage à continuer à apprendre. Je recommande tout simplement ce pays. Il y a un peu de backpackers, s’est très abordable, il fait chaud, la mer est belle, quoi demander de mieux!
During the last week of May, when I knew I had to return to Canada soon, I did not have any desire to return directly to Canada after saying goodbye to my boyfriend for the next 5 months. I decided the 1st of June to fly to Costa Rica for a stay of 12 days and to join a good friend of mine, Richard! He decided to spend six months in Costa Rica and had a place to host me located at the Costa de Pajagos between Liberia and San Jose. After almost 48 hours of flying and walking in different airports of China and the United States, Richard greeted me with his beautiful little motorcycle that would be our transportation for the next two weeks. Yes I embarked on the bike with my backpack of 18 kg in addition of a smaller one of 7kg. After 2 days in cold airports, it was good to be back among the palm trees and warm sunshine. I felt like home again.
So we drove around 1:30 in the forest and in the mountains where in high was much colder than the lower part of the mountains where the heat was almost overwhelming. We took a break during which I ate my first Costa Rican meal. A good dish made of chicken, rice, plantain and small cold salad. It was simply delicious and typical. Arrived at the destination close to the sea, I discovered a wonderful wooden house which was the residence of Richard for the past two months at the time. Next door, there was another house where a couple from Nicaragua lived for some years. They welcomed me warmly. They cleaned my room for two weeks and they have been cooking various dishes every day , morning, afternoon and evening.
It was the first time I made a trip that I did not have anything to prepare and organize. So it was a real holiday for me to give me time to rest and prepare myself mentally to return to the routine that I would have in Canada that is to say, work, study, skype. Our two weeks have been very busy!
Every day, we went around Costa de Pajagos in motorcycle. I discovered beautiful rural surroundings with views of the sea. There was a lot of cows, sheep and horses in the fields. What struck me the most was that there were street dogs everywhere! No matter where we were, there was always a ton of dog around us. There was even one lying in one of the bars we went out! At the house where I stayed, there were about 4 or 5 dogs and they often played with the two monkeys who lived in the forest surrounding the house. It was really special to wake up every morning to go to lunch on a beautiful round wooden table outside with one or two monkeys eating a mango close to me.
During my trip to Costa Rica, we visited many interesting cities. We first went to Montezuma where we stayed two days in a hostel overlooking the sea. We bought ourselves a good bottle of rum with delicious and fresh coconut milk picked up from a palm tree. We ate in a lovely organic restaurant; we went clubbing and then see a dance with fire in the middle of the street. The next day we went to the famous waterfall of Montezuma where we swam and watched the locals jumping from the top of the falls! It was pretty awesome!
We also visited Liberia where we lived in a beautiful hotel for two nights. We drove a long way to manage to get the closest we could of an active volcano. Since he was active we could not make us to the top, but it allowed us to have an overview of all the mountains which on planned heaps of smoke. Since we could go to the summit, we stopped at a spa created by the hot water from the volcano. It was fabulous! I liked the city of Liberia. There was a nice big park with lots of people in the streets. We have once again eaten at a very good restaurant where the pina colada was simply delicious! There was a nice big white church that was filled of people! It’s been a long time since I had not seen a crowded church. There were young children who were skating right in front. It was a strange contrast.
During my stay, we went fishing with the neighbor of Richard on a small boat along with eight other people from the region in addition to some Colombians. No one could speak English but our kinds of conversion were very funny. And I must say that I am proud because I was the first one who got the two first fish! Hell YAIH ! In addition, I must say that what most marked me in Costa Rica, are the insects. At night when we had to turn on the light, there were a bunch of insects coming inside. So in addition to the jetlag I had from Australia, I was also completely theorized by insects. One night, I had my flashlight in hand and I pointed at the wall next to my head and there was a scorpion! A SCORPION! I stop breathing and I ran directly to Richard so he can kill it. Guess if I slept after that?
To end my stay, we stopped at a paradise beach called the Hermosa where we have once again stayed in a beautiful hotel where we had dinner in front a beautiful sunset. People were great, welcoming and the temperature was always perfect, no matter where we were.
I loved my trip to Costa Rica! I even intend to go back to visit the Caribbean side. I loved all the people I met. Everyone was so nice, friendly and understanding. These two weeks help me to rest and clear my head of any concern. It was really a holiday of peace. The Spanish language is simply beautiful and I ‘m glad I also manage to express myself pretty well; it encourages me to continue to learn. I simply recommended this country. There are a few backpackers, is very affordable, it’s hot, the sea is beautiful, what could be better!
